Bamboo Active Carbon

Bamboo Active Carbon

Activated carbon is a non-graphitic form of carbon, which could be produced by activation of any carbonaceous material such as coconut shells, bamboo, wood chips, sawdust, coal, lignite, paddy husk etc. The process of activation is carried out in two stages. The raw material is first carbonized and then activated either by chemicals or by steam to derive the highly porous structure. The two main parameters relevant to the performance of the activated carbon are namely, surface area and pore volume or structure. As to the shape of activated carbon, there is a difference between powder, granular and pelletized qualities. Based on suitable molecular size, the pore volume limits size of the molecules that can be adsorbed whilst the surface area limits the amount of material, which can be adsorbed.

Bamboo charcoal is traditionally used as a substitute for wood charcoal or mineral coal. It can serve as a fuel, absorbent and conductor. The calorific value of bamboo charcoal is almost half that of oil of the same weight. Activated bamboo charcoal can be used for cleaning the environment, absorbing excess moisture and producing medicines. The absorption capacity of bamboo charcoal is six times that of wood charcoal of the same weight. There are three main reasons that contributes to the success of bamboo charcoal in international trade:

1.Bamboo grows faster and has a shorter rotation compared with tree species;
2.The calorific value and absorption properties of bamboo charcoal are similar to or better than those of wood charcoal; and it is cheaper and easier to produce.
3.Bamboo Active Carbon fabric is made from bamboo charcoal nano-particles, providing multiple functions.

Specification

Antibacterial and antifungal
Bamboo thrives naturally without using any pesticide and bamboo-carbon nano particles still retain their natural antibacterial and antifungal functions, bacteriostasis and deodorization. As Eco-fabric has natural antibacterial function, it should not cause any allergic reaction to the skin, unlike other fibers sterilized with antimicrobial agents.

Breathable and dry
Bamboo-carbon yarn has a cross-section filled with various micro-gaps and micro-holes, hence compared to other conventional fabric; it has better moisture absorption and ventilation. Eco-fabric products can absorb and disperse sweat fast, making them feel dry and comfortable. They also do not stick to skin during hot summer days.

Thermal regulation
Eco-fabric products not only feel cool during hot days, they also have a great insulating effect to retain heat in cold weather.

Absorption and emission of Far Infrared Radiation
Bamboo-carbon nano particles can absorb far infrared radiation from the environment, and emit them to help in cell activation, and promote blood circulation and metabolism in the long run.

De-odorizing
Because bamboo-carbon has a porous structure, Eco-fabric can absorb and neutralize benzene, phenol, methyl alcohol, and other harmful substances.

Prevent static electricity buildup
As bamboo-carbon nano particles are conductive, their presence in the fiber helps Eco-fabric prevent charge buildup. As a result, wearing Eco-fabric products will avoid unnecessary static-electrical shocks, even in dry conditions.

Green
Using Eco-fabric generally will not cause any allergic reactions as Eco-fabric gets all its above properties from bamboo. Harmful chemicals are not used during production of Eco-fabric.

Washable
As the bamboo-carbon nano particles are distributed inside fibers rather than on their surface, Eco-fabric is washable without diminishing the effectiveness of the carbon powder's special qualities even after 50 washes.
